Thousands of people pay homage to General Giap’s grave on Independence Day

(Quang Binh Portal) - Thousands of people nationwide have come to Vung Chua – Yen Island in the central province of Quang Binh to pay homage to General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of the Independence Day (September 2nd).


People walk in line to the General’s tomb

According to Senior Lieutenant Khac Ngoc Tan Hao, Head of the Guard Team at the General’s tomb, more than 230 groups with more than 4,000 visitors across the country have offered incense to the late General on September 1st. During four days (from August 30 to September 2), around 3,000 people came to the tomb each day.

The officer also said that the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command and other relevant agencies have increased the guard force.

Since General Vo Nguyen Giap was laid to rest in Vung Chua – Yen Island, Quang Binh province, his home town, about 210,000 delegations with more than 2.6 million pilgrims have visited his grave.
