Meeting for presenting the Sustainable Tourism Development Project for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region in Quang Binh and the plan for 2010

(Quang Binh Website) - On 14-15 January 2010, the Sustainable Tourism Development Project Management Board for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region in Quang Binh held a meeting to present and propose the operation plan for 2010. Holding the meeting was Mr. Tran Cong Thuat, Vice-chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Head of the Quang Binh’s Project Management Board and Dr.Tran Van Ngoi, Director of the national plan.

The Sustainable Tourism Development Project for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region has been carried out in five provinces of Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Binh from 2009 to 2013 with the total capita of 11.795 million USD. The project’s objective is to develop the sustainable and communal tourism, to further poverty-alleviation movement, to invest in infrastructure and to protect Viet Nam’s heritages.
 
Quang Binh province alone, the project focuses on economic-social development, protecting world natural heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang national park, developing the sustainable tourism and communal tourism, building infrastructures for tourism, improving awareness of community and developing human resource for tourism. Quang Binh is offered a 2,600,540 USD aid, in which 2,198,628USD from ADB funds and 401,912USD from corresponding funds.
 
In the year 2010, the Sustainable Tourism Development Project for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region in Quang Binh will focus on helping Phong Nha - Ke Bang natural park to develop a new boat model described as an environmentally friendly product; to improve solid waste disposal system in Phong Nha-Ke Bang area; to research, design and build some small-sized tourism projects. Concretely, the project will hold the meetings and workshops on sustainable and communal tourism; organise activities to enhance the community’s awareness of bio-diversity, environmental protection and communal tourism; activities to develop regionally traditional occupations and products for tourism; activities to promote and popularize tourism in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area. The total estimated budget for year 2010 is 534,734 US dollars, in which 2,198,628 US dollars from ADB funds and 401,912 US dollars from corresponding funds.
