Hang Son Doong was found by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991 and was discovered in 2009 by British cavers, led by Howard Limbert.
Hang Son Doong is a remarkable cave located in the core zone of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and World Heritage Site. It is at the moment the cave with the largest passage in the world. It is well known throughout the world and has attracted a lot of interest of scientists, film-makers and visitors who like adventure tourism.
At the meeting, Mr Howard Limbert presented the pilot scheme for guided tour to Hang Son Doong. Accordingly, the tours will be in the form of adventure trekking and caving and will require the employment of experienced cavers with good knowledge of safety and rescue techniques as well as cave conservation requirements. Experienced local guides and porters will also be required.
As estimated, each tour will be seven days with a maximum of 6 tourists per group, of which a training day for tourists to supply trekking/caving equipment and then a trip to explore the unique features of Hang Son Doong. The first pilot tour to Hang Son Doong will be available in August of 2014.
