Son Doong Cave tours increase in number of tourists

 (Quang Binh Portal) - The Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee has recently approved bumping up the sales of tours to Son Doong cave in 2017, one of the world’s largest caves, with about over 200 tourists due to increased demand and opening an international flight from Dong Hoi to Chieng Mai (Thailand).

Currently, Oxalis is the sole operator that is permitted to open tours to explore Son Doong Cave.

The 2017 Son Doong Cave tours, on sale on the website of Oxalis Adventure Tours, offer a five-day and four-night tours with a maximum of ten people at the cost of US$ 3,000 per person from January-August 2107.
Each tour requires a team of 25 porters and cooks, a tour guide, two cave experts and two park rangers.

Visitors need to ensure they are in good health before embarking on the adventurous trip. People who suffer from high blood pressure, cardiac disease, joint problems or diabetes are not eligible for the trip.
Son Doong, which is 150 metres high and 200 metres wide, first became known worldwide in 2009 when it was explored by members of the British Cave Research Association led by Howard Limbert and his wife Deb Limbert, guided by local resident Ho Khanh.

In addition, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has also agreed the opening of an international flight from Dong Hoi to Chieng Mai (Thailand). Accordingly, the Department of Tourism is assigned to work with the big travel companies in the provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Nghe An, etc to welcome and organize tour for tourists from Thailand to Quang Binh. The flight is expected to open in June of 2017.
