Son Doong listed in top 16 most beautiful caves in the world

 (Quang Binh Portal) - The Active Times has recently listed the Son Doong Cave (Quang Binh province, Vietnam) in top 16 most beautiful caves in the world.

Located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam, Hang Son Doong is part of the underground system connected to more than 150 different caves in Vietnam, near the border with Laos.

It is considered as an extraordinary and magnificent cave with many beautiful stalactites.

"Initially found by a local man in 1991, the Son Doong Cave was fully discovered in 2009, making it the largest known cave passage cross-section in the world. The name translates to “mountain river cave” and there is, in fact, a quick-moving river within the cave, which is how the cave was initially formed sometime between 2 and 5 million years ago", the Active Times said.

Ealier, the American Business Insider ranked Son Doong Cave in the world's top 9 most magnificent natural cave. It said that Son Doong is 200 meters wide, 150 meters high and about 9 kilometers long. The beauty of this cave is enhanced by its vegetationm derived from the collapse of a roof in one of the caverns.
