Vietnam joins in tourism development for Mekong Sub-region

(Quang Binh Website) - Five provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri will join in the implementation of the sustainable tourism development project for Greater Mekong Sub-region with the total capital of over US$11.1 million.

The project is estimated to complete in five years, from January 2009 to late 2013.

The Asia Development Bank (ADB) will provide a preferential credit loan of US$10 million and Vietnam will contribute more than US$11.1 million to this project, said the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

The project will be carried out in accordance with the model of "community-based tourism", aiming at making a great change in residential community and relevant agencies and organizations on the approach and operation of community-based tourism, contributing to promoting the work of conservation of cultural and natural heritages.

The project will also develop products of community-based tourism, upgrade tourism infrastructure and improve the ability of tourism management, contributing to furthering the poverty-alleviate movement.
