Stakeholder workshop on participatory tourism value chain analysis in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Region

(Quang Binh Website) - The Phong Nha - Ke Bang (PNKB) Region Project Management Board (GIZ Component) on December 5 and 6 held a workshop to analyze tourism value chain and work out its action plan with the participation of PNKB National Park Region.

Through this workshop, the participants are provided with an understanding of how the tourism economic flows operate, what share of tourism expenditure reaches different groups of people in the region, and segmentation for pro-poor tourism development; analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the (sustainable/ responsible) tourism through analysis of clusters/segments in the PNKB NP region to identify an upgrading strategy of the tourism value chain with short and medium term potential interventions that could increase the economic benefits of the target groups, or even contribute to the general competitive development of the region.

In addition to this, this is an opportunity to identify interventions and initiatives for strengthening the institutional arrangements within the tourism sector and to activate collaboration with regard to upgrading of the selected chains for the region; get the interest and commitment of key stakeholders in the upcoming years and beyond to concrete action for implementing interventions (a 3-year action plan).

At the workshop, delegates heard 8 speeches on general assessment of tourism development situation in PNKB National Park in the period of 2010-2011; some sustainable tourism development models; concept and tendency for natural resource management, i.e.

The workshop also spent much time to discuss in groups about general analysis of main factors and their relationship in tourism value chain.

PNKB Nation Park Project Management Board (GIZ component) will collect all ideas and contributions from relevant units to make a plan for implementing sustainable tourism development activities in PNKB National Park Region in 2012 and the following years.
