The expedition has jointly been carried out by the British Caving Research Association, Hanoi Natural Sciences University and the Management Board of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

During the group’s 16th expedition into the park (from March 16 to April 25), the group founded 39 new caves with a total length of 17 km, bringing the park’s total explored caves space to 200 kilometers.

The caves were carefully measured, mapped and photographed providing new and precise figures to the administrators of Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park.

The three most remarkable caves were the May cave with a length of 1,100 meters and a depth of 200 meters, the Vuc Moi cave with a depth of 213 meters, and the Lan cave with a length of 1,230 meters.

In addition, A Ky cave in the east of Road 20 with a length of 1,260 meters, was noted for its unique hydrography - that is, a long stream running through the cave which begins in neighboring Laos.

In the west of Road 20 at Km 24, the group discovered the Vuc The cave with a depth of 207 meters.

The Tu cave, located in the west of the Ho Chi Minh Road at Km 14, is an upright-standing cave with a length of 444 meters into the air.

From the expeditions, it showed that Phong Nha - Ke Bang has the most important cave system in the region and the world.
