The Dong Hoi - Chiang Mai flight was launched on August 11, 2017 operated by Jetstar Pacific Airlines with two weekly flights on Monday and Friday using the Airbus A320 with 180 seats in the Economy Class. This is the first international flight in Quang Binh and also the first direct international fight from Vietnam to Chiang Mai. The opening of this flight has contributed to the promotion of tourism images of two provinces and lured tourists to Quang Binh - Chiang Mai. However, due to many reasons related to the weather, ticket price... the flight had to be suspended.

At the meeting, two sides frankly exchanged to find practical solutions to remove difficulties and expedite the reopening of Dong Hoi - Chiang Mai flight. The Thailand Tourism Association and Air Inter Transport Company affirmed that Quang Binh - Chiang Mai are two tourist destinations of Southeast Asia, which are increasingly attracting large numbers of tourists, convenient to travel, and expressed their hope that if Dong Hoi - Chiang Mai route is exploited, they wish to receive the support and proposal from Quang Binh province to upgrade Dong Hoi airport into an international airport; on the other hand, tourism enterprises of the two provinces have jointly cooperated in developing flight.

Before two sides prepare the conditions and procedures for the Dong Hoi - Chiang Mai flight to be reopened, the Thailand Tourism Association will boost the promotion activities to attract Thai tourists to take the flight in the form of charter (travel by plane, rent an entire flight).
