Adventure tour to Tu Lan cave system opens

(Quang Binh Website) - The Oxalis Travel Company on June 25 launched an adventure tour for visitors to Tu Lan cave system in Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tien Dung attended the event.

Dicovered in 2009, Tu Lan cave system is about seventy kilometers north-west of Phong Nha, including eight caves, namely Chuot, Hung Ton, Tu Lan, Ken, Kim, Song, Uoi and Bi Mat.

The Provincial People's Committee officially issued license to the Oxalis Travel Company to expoit Tu Lan adventure tour according to Decision No.1388/QD-UBND dated June 2, 2014.

The tour is considered as the kind of adventure travel tour, so the Oxalis Travel Company has spent two years for geographical location research with the direct participation of many scientists from the British Royal Cave Research Assocation and consultants on adventure tourism.

The exploration of Tu Lan cave system is designed with four tours. Accordingly, the one-day tour will take visitors to Chuot and Hung Ton caves while the two-day and one-night tour to four caves, namely Hung Ton, Tu Lan, Ken and Kim; the three-day and two-night tour to six caves, namely Chuot, Hung Ton, Tu Lan, Ken, Kim and Song and the four-day and three night tour to seven caves, namely Chuot, Hung Ton, Tu Lan, Ken, Kim, Uoi and Bi Mat.

When joining in these adventure tours, safety is absolutely paramount on all trips. Visitors will be provided with helmets, life jackets, gloves, tents, hammocks, sleeping bags, headlight, trekking boots and satellite telephone according to European safety standards.

The highlight during the tours is that tourists will walk under the immense valley, wade through slippery mud, swim across the rivers, listen to the sounds of waterfall and night critters and hear some interesting stories about the local ethnic people.

There are many spectacular untouched caves in this limestone mountain area with beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, as well as underground rivers and splendid waterfalls, making Tu Lan a unique spot for both sightseeing for adventure.

Tu Lan is expected to welcome about 2,000 visitors in 2014, of which 80% of foreign arrivals and 20% domestic arrivals, and its revenues are estimated to reach nearly VND6 billion.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tien Dung highly valued contributions made by Oxalis Travel Company to development of the province's tourism sector. He asked the Company to ensure safety for visitors when taking the tour to Tu Lan cave system, sustainably develop tourism, protect ecological environment and natural landscapes and provide jobs for local people.
